Detailed Description
Vitreous surgery is useful for a broad spectrum of intraocular disorders. Vitreous surgery provides access to virtually all of the intraocular tissues. The surgery is performed (a) to remove vitreous opacified by blood, (b) to remove shrunken vitreous causing traction on the retina, (c) to treat vitreous traction complicating retinal detachment, (d) to remove metaplastic membrane from the retina, (e) to remove infected vitreous in cases of endophthalmitis and instil antibiotics. Vitreous is frequently combined with retinal detachment surgery.
